Responding to Medical Emergencies

September 15, 2025

Every day, our highly trained security officers stand guard to ensure the security of their clients' assets, property, and – most importantly – their people. Their very presence deters threats, and, through their training, they are equipped to respond swiftly and effectively to medical emergencies, providing critical assistance when it matters most—before EMS has time to arrive.

Casey Jones – Dallas, TX

Security Officer Casey Jones works at a high-traffic public transportation hub in Dallas. While patrolling the platform, he noticed an individual who appeared to be sleeping on the ground. After failed attempts to wake the individual with verbal commands, Security Officer Jones was approached by another patron who had witnessed the individual fall and possibly hit their head.

Security Officer Jones checked to see if the individual was breathing, but they were not. He called for EMS and began chest compressions. After the third round of compressions, the individual started breathing again, at which time EMS arrived.

Wanda Etheridge – Port Wentworth, GA

EMT Officer Wanda Etheridge works at a large manufacturing facility in Port Wentworth, GA. Wanda’s career spans 30 years in EMS and as an EMT Security Officer. In the space of two months this summer, she responded to two major medical emergencies.

In the first emergency, she utilized her experience to identify heat stroke. Wanda recognized that the driver, who was operating a truck without air conditioning in the summer heat, was in distress due to the heat. Due to her actions, the driver was treated and prevented from the heatstroke escalating.

In the second emergency, she responded when an employee experienced a cardiac event. Due to her training and awareness, she identified the medical issue and took life-saving actions to prevent the patient's deterioration.
